Good Year For the Roses

by Andy Hunt

Spring it was perfume

Summer was wine

Fall yes we did

By winter you were mine

I knew you grew bitter

Cause I've tasted your tears

Still I've known nothing better

For seven long years

(Chorus) It's been a good year

For the roses

Though the leaves now whither

On the vine

I'll keep the hedgerows

And I'll dry the blossoms

Just like I did

When you were mine

The wind howls

A dog barks

Oh nothing has changed

Just your half of the bed there

Laying empty and strange

January's cold

It makes you give in

It's hard playing solitaire

When you've been

Winning at gin

(Chorus) It's been a good year

For the roses

Though the leaves now whither

On the vine

I'll keep the hedgerows

And I'll dry the blossoms

Just like I did

When you were mine

Moss it now grows

On this ol' rolling stone

And the branches have decayed

Where some new one's have grown

And I kept the path worn

And I oiled the gate

But tell me now darlin'

How much more should I wait?

(Chorus) It's been a good year

For the roses

Though the leaves now whither

On the vine

I'll keep the hedgerows

And I'll dry the blossoms

Just like I did

When you were mine
