Eighteen Wheels, by Andy Hunt
This old rig she's a time machine
I get behind the wheel and dream
About the day before I called this highway home
Another time another place
I remember a pretty face
And a love affair now forever gone
(Chorus) And as I stare out the window
I get this feeling that I should
Be movin' on as if I'm already gone
Eighteen wheels won't ya free
My worried mind
Till I move a little further down the line
Was in 1965 bought this rig
And I took a bride
Strapped myself in for a long bumpy ride
And after 30 years on the road
All that's left now of my soul
Is a worn out leathery old hide
(Chorus) And as I stare out the window
I get this feeling that I should
Be movin' on as if I'm already gone
Eighteen wheels won't ya free
My worried mind
Till I move a little further down the line
(Bridge)
So blow ye black rings
Of smoke the engine sings
Before long I'm pullin' in to weigh
And as I stare out from
The next motel I wonder how
The world I fell
In the mirror I see
A ravaged face and a tan line
Where once a ring was placed
Out on the plains the road goes flat
I loosen my belt and hat
Chugger down a taste of Jack
'Cause it's all I've got to keep me warm
And that ol' engine running hot
Takes about all that I got
Just to stay awake
From midnight into dawn
(Chorus) And as I stare out the window
I get this feeling that I should
Be movin' on as if I'm already gone
Eighteen wheels won't ya free
My worried mind
Till I move a little further down the line
